Turtle Islands Wildlife Sanctuary
Turtle Islands Wildlife Sanctuary is part of the Tentative list of Philippines in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
Six of the nine islands belonging to the Philippines at the fringes of the Sulu Sea comprise this nominated property; the other 3 islands are administered by Malaysia with potential to be a transnational nomination. The islands are the most important nesting ground of two species of marine turtles – green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) and hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbiricata). The islands also host a remarkable biodiversity of terrestrial and marine flora and fauna, including birds, reptiles, sea grasses, fishes, and corals.
